However eyewitnesses present at the scene of the incident revealed that Tanzanians are in-charge of the territory and they killed the taxi driver with a pistol snatched from a police officer. The two eyewitnesses further revealed that Nigerians were framed in the attack. They asserted that there was a plot to make Nigerians look bad after the killing.
The attack was launched against foreigners by South Africans, following the murder of the Taxi driver by suspected drug dealers in Pretoria CBD on Tuesday August 27. The cabbie was shot dead after he alongside other Taxi drivers confronted suspected drug dealers in the community in bid to clean the city’s streets.

A shooting which resulted in the death of a taxi driver is reported to have incited the riots, which led to two A Re Yeng buses, three Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) buses, a Gautrain bus and two trucks being utilised to blockade the roads. A Re Yeng and TBS operations were halted for the rest of the day in the interest of safety," Tshwane Transport MMC Sheila Senkubuge told Sowetan.
Popular South African performer Zodwa Wabantu, has called out citizens of her country for the xenophobic attack on African Nationals living in their country.
She called out the South Africans destroying and looting businesses owned by African nationals and said the attack has to stop.
