My research has shown that Cigarettes contain NICOTINE. NICOTINE when introduced into the body by smoking, chewing or sniffing, has a stimulating effect upon various centers in the medulla oblongata region of the brain.
It also affects the respiratory centers that show up in the area by reflex action. Nicotine acts on other centers that then slow down the heart action constricting the arteries. It interferes with urine formation by its action on the pituitary gland. It causes the gland to release anti-diuretic hormones, which impede urine flow.
This obviously reveals that smoking is very dangerous to the health. I couldn't just understand why smokers kept smoking until I got to take a deep look into the word "ADDICTION".
According to the Adam Felman; Addiction is a psychological and physical inability to stop consuming a chemical, drug, activity, or substance, even though it is causing psychological and physical harm.
This explains it. Even if they are eventually willing to stop, they are too weak to overcome their addictions. Their inability to "stop" smoking is both psychological and physical. The body has been conditioned to the constant intake of cigarettes and other similar chemicals such that, they are not in control of it anymore.
It is first psychological before physical. It is a change in their thinking that will ignite a change in their physical behavior.
HOW CAN A CHANGE IN THINKING BE ACHIEVED ?
It is often very difficult for the thinking of a man to be changed against his will. Therefore for a smoker to see reasons why he must stop smoking, he must have been fed with realities that'll channel his thinking to the right direction.
- Make the decision for yourself
- Talk to someone that does not smoke
- Get help from a Therapist
- Avoid drugs with Nicotine content
- and most of all be PRAYERFUL
This can only be achieved by a fervent spiritual counselling and intervention (prayers). As much as we would like to think that ADDICTION is just a mere word. It is beyond Physical.
DO YOU HAVE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE THAT SMOKE OR EVEN DO DRUGS ?
THEY ARE FINDING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP ?
PRAY FOR THEM !! NEVER CEASE.
ADDICTION IS A BATTLE!
THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FIGHT IT ALONE.
